Position Summary:

Marketplace seeks an Executive Producer to lead our growing Make Me Smart franchise,
which includes our hit weekly podcast Make Me Smart with Kai and Molly; our award-winning
daily voice-on-demand skill, our newsletter, and digital presence.

If you have experience running podcasts, are a collaborative leader, and enjoy building new
things, this job is for you. As Executive Producer, you'd oversee the editorial development,
creative evolution and audience growth of each part of the Make Me Smart suite, along with
exploring the continued expansion of Make Me Smart in the future, which could include live
shows, curriculum, and digital verticals.

This position is part of Marketplace's successful portfolio of podcasts, reaching over 7 million
listeners each month. Marketplace is one of the most dynamic multimedia brands in the
country, known for an irreverent approach to business and economic news on multiple
platforms. Our currency is good ideas. We value creativity and unorthodox thinking. And
while we are serious about covering business and the economy the right way, we don't take
ourselves too seriously.

Position Responsibility:

Help develop and communicate the vision, direction, editorial, sound, and standards for Make
Me Smart, and help evaluate and execute expansion opportunities
Works closely and skillfully with program hosts and staff, including one remote host.
Work collaboratively to develop and execute a robust audience growth strategy for all parts of
the franchise.
Find ways to integrate each part of the Make Me Smart suite of offerings
Lead and collaborate with small production team, including hosts, including pitching ideas,
prepping scripts, producing episodes and newsletters.
Edit others' work, including line edits, suggested cuts, mixing notes, and overall editorial
direction.
Serve as senior quality control staff member for program material.
Help develop and manage new podcasts, as needed.
Manage small team within a growing On Demand department.
Foster a creative and productive work environment.
Create development opportunities and development plans for staff and training to enhance
skills and foster growth.
Coordinate production, marketing, and communication with internal and external partners.
Manage timely delivery for all elements.
Hire, supervise, train and manage direct staff through coaching, mentorship, performance
meetings and ongoing feedback. Involves HR on performance issues as needed.
Coordinate with brand team on promotion opportunities
Manage budgets as needed.
Assist with fundraising as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned, including filling in for other show producers at Marketplace.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
Strong ability to structure compelling stories across platforms.
Production experience in digital audio or radio.
10 or more years' experience production, editorial or related experience including five years at
management/supervisory level
